  • Moderate (51 to 100): Little or no risk to health.
  • Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (101 to 150): Has negative effects on the health of children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or cardiac diseases.
  • Unhealthy (151 to 200): It is harmful to all people.
  • Very Unhealthy (201 to 300): Breathing this air is dangerous, so outdoor activities are recommended to be avoided.
  • Hazardous (over 300): It is not advised to go outside without a mask.

How Poor Air Quality Impacts Health

As air pollution levels rise, so does the risk of diseases (eye irritation, cough, asthma, bronchitis, heart diseases...). According to data from the WHO, it is estimated that around 6.7 million premature deaths occur worldwide each year due to the harmful effects of air pollution.

Poor air quality not only impacts human health but also has serious consequences for our environment. Firstly, many pollutants, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen oxide, are greenhouse gases that trap heat in the atmosphere, which contributes to global warming and accelerates climate change.

Furthermore, we must not forget that pollution present in the air can be deposited into soils and surface and groundwater through precipitation and dry deposition. This has negative effects on agriculture, fishing, and wildlife.
