Ventilation Grilles for Kitchens: Essential Ventilation Elements
superadmin
The ventilation grilles, whether ventilation grilles for kitchens or for any other room in the house, are essential elements in the ventilation system of your home. Thanks to them, we can extract the contaminated air from inside the premises.
Ventilation, a matter of necessity
The regulation UNE-CEN/TR 14788:2007 IN, Ventilation of Buildings Design and Sizing of Ventilation Systems in Homes, applicable in single-family and multi-family homes, states that the supply of outdoor air in closed spaces is necessary to achieve the following objectives:• Dilute and eradicate the base contaminating particles found in the environment: particles released by furniture, materials, or cleaning products.
• Dissolve and suppress specific contaminating particles that originate in local sources: kitchens, bathrooms, tobacco smoke, burners…
• Eliminate the carbon dioxide produced as a result of people's breathing.
• Control the relative humidity level, so that it is within the recommended margins (between 40 and 60%).
• Ensure the comfort and well-being of the people occupying the spaces.
Considering the specific pollutants generated in the areas of the home where the production of water vapor is high, such as in kitchens and bathrooms, it is important to ensure that the ventilation system is effective in extracting stale and contaminated air.
Ventilation Grilles for Kitchens: Requirements and Recommendations
The placement of ventilation grilles for kitchens, and those throughout the house, should be done as follows:• The extraction grilles will be connected to extraction ducts and will be located no more than 20 cm from the ceiling.
• The grilles must be at least 10 cm away from any corner or edge.
Recommendations
The grilles must be able to adapt to the relative humidity levels of the spaces. Therefore, it is advisable to install hygro-regulable extraction mouths that adjust the necessary ventilation flow based on the relative humidity level of the room. In kitchens, given the rate of water vapor production, this solution should be considered. If, in addition, the ventilation system has self-regulating devices, a constant ventilation flow can be established, regardless of the depression, ensuring proper air renewal. All this translates into economic savings, as self-regulating and hygro-regulable ventilation grilles optimize the functioning of ventilation systems.
Remember that only specialized technicians will guarantee a correct design, sizing, and positioning of the ventilation grilles. Without competent professionals, we risk not having the minimum airflow necessary to ensure proper air renewal in the rooms. Or, conversely, too much air could be supplied, or due to poor placement of the grilles, cause discomfort among the occupants.
