In this article we will talk about how a wind extractor works, but for this we must be clear about the concept of wind ventilation. Wind ventilation is a mechanical ventilation system that works with the use of wind extractors, which are activated by the energy generated by the outside wind and by the temperature differential that exists between the outside and the inside of a cover. Currently, it is a very used system in the industrial and residential sectors.

The industrial extractor is characterized by having no energy consumption, a relatively low initial investment, and the absence of acoustic contamination during its operation, which allows it to provide advantages over other systems such as industrial extractors or the mechanical extractors used in the ventilation of houses. They are especially recommended for very sunny buildings and with poor ventilation of their interior rooms. Through an uninterrupted process, this type of extractor activates by sucking the hot air accumulated under the cover to the outside, which is naturally compensated by the entry of fresh air through the windows that should preferably be located in the lower areas of the façade enclosures. In this way, an upward movement of air is created inside the premises as the lighter hot air rises from the lower areas of the interior to the upper part of the cover where the wind extractor is located.

Wind extractor and its types:

Currently, along with the conventional wind extractor that takes advantage of the force of the outside wind, hybrid wind extractors can also be used, in which an electro-fan acts in combination with the extractors, allowing for more precise regulation of the renewed air flow. The solar-wind extractors increase the performance of the system by incorporating a solar panel that can be autonomous or connected to the grid. In this case, the use of the two energy sources, solar and wind, allows for considerable savings in the energy consumption of the installation.

Physical characteristics

Wind extractors are manufactured entirely from aluminum or galvanized steel since in both cases they are lightweight materials whose weight does not impose any overload that could affect the structure, and they also have very good performance when being installed outdoors: very good resistance to corrosion, sunlight, and temperature changes. In their assembly, pre-lubricated and sealed bearings must be used to guarantee the tightness of the entire set and thus avoid possible rainwater leakages. How to choose ventilation systems
