Energy efficiency has become, in recent years, indisputably, the center of priorities in housing construction. This is established in numerous regulations and strategic documents at both the national level and the European Union level. In this article, we will focus on an essential component for achieving efficient and sustainable spaces: the Heat Recovery in mechanical ventilation.
Functionality and Energy Efficiency
The importance of a heat recovery unit lies in three fundamental elements: optimizing the energy efficiency of ventilation systems, the consequent savings on the energy bill, and the well-being provided by air quality. The function of these components can be explained through the reuse of air propelled inside —through mechanical ventilation— exchanged with the air extracted from outside, moderating its temperature. In this way, both in winter and in summer, these components optimize the overall air conditioning and air renewal system.
The efficiency achieved can vary from a minimum of 54% up to maximum yields of up to 92% depending on the entire installation and the thermal conditions outside:
- In winter, when it is 5 °C outside, the new air will be 19 °C in the house, and the room air will be 20 °C.
- In summer, when the outside temperature is 30°C, the new air enters at 22°C and the inside of the house will have a temperature of 21 °C.
