According to the definition of the CTE DB HS 3, Indoor air quality, there is a whole family of openings in ventilation systems. The adjustable ventilation grilles are part of it. These are extraction openings that can appear in any of the openings that make up the ventilation system.
Definition of the concepts
- We talk about ventilation opening when we refer to the cavities made in the walls of the rooms to allow air to circulate between different spaces or between the room and the outside.
- The ventilation opening through which the air flow enters is the admission opening. This connects the room with the outside, either directly or through an admission duct.
- In the case that the opening is used to extract stale air from the rooms, we talk about extraction opening. It connects the room with the outside space of the building, either directly or through a duct.
- Passage opening is any ventilation opening that allows air to enter between adjacent spaces.
- When the opening is made in one of the walls of the room and allows the transmission of the air flow between the room itself and another adjacent room or with the outside space, we talk about ventilation opening.
- A mixed opening is a ventilation opening that ventilates the room naturally and acts as an admission opening under some circumstances and as an extraction opening in others.
The adjustable ventilation grilles in the market
There are adjustable ventilation grilles in the market whose mission is to optimize the performance of ventilation systems. The self-regulating outlets with built-in regulator allow maintaining the nominal air flow constant, regardless of the pressure. They are used in controlled mechanical ventilation systems to extract stale air from humid areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, and laundry rooms. They can be single or double flow. The acoustic characteristics are as follows:
Hygrosensitive extraction outlets
- They ensure a variable flow depending on relative humidity.
- They are made of white polystyrene and can be mounted on the ceiling or on a vertical wall.
- They provide a complementary flow if necessary thanks to the presence devices.
- They ensure a variable flow according to the ambient relative humidity of the room and a complementary timer flow (30 minutes) controlled by presence detection (electrical control 3x 1.5V). Power can be from LR6 type batteries or through electrical control (12V).
