How to obtain the RITE thermal installations certificate

Do you know what steps you need to follow to get the RITE thermal installations certificate? In this article, we explain how to obtain the installation certificate and what the maintenance certificate consists of.

RITE Certificate

Any heating, cooling, hot water production (ACS), or ventilation installation is a thermal installation. Its purpose is to meet the thermal comfort and sanitary hygiene needs of the occupants of a building. According to current regulations, some thermal installations must be legalized as indicated in the RITE (Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings). To do this, you must take into account the following:

• In cases where the N (nominal thermal power) of the entire installation does not exceed 5 kW, or when the hot water production equipment is a boiler whose N does not exceed 70 kW, it will not be mandatory to present documentation.

• If the N is between 5 and 70 kW, an authorized agent must process the technical memory to register it with the competent authority.

• When the installation exceeds 70 kW, it must also be registered and a prior technical project signed by an engineer must be available.

Obligations of the installation owner

The owner of the installation will be responsible for carrying out the following actions:

• The maintenance (by an authorized maintenance company) of the installation.

• The required periodic inspections.

• The custody of all documentation and records (all actions performed).

Installation Certificate

The installation certificate certifies that it complies with current regulations and can be registered once the thermal installation is completed. The registration must be carried out with the competent authority of the autonomous community where the installation is located. Once registered, it can proceed to put into service. If the results of the commissioning tests are positive, authorized agents (either an authorized installer or the installation director) can proceed to authorize the certificate.

The installation certificate issued by the competent authority of the autonomous community contains the following information:

• Technical characteristics of the installation (it must be perfectly executed).

• Data of the installing company, the authorized installer, who must have a professional card, and the installation director (if necessary).

• Result of the commissioning test.

• Explicit statement that the installation has been carried out according to the project and technical memory, and that it meets all the requirements of the Regulation.

Maintenance Certificate

When it is necessary to contract a maintenance service, both the maintenance company and the maintenance director must sign the maintenance certificate valid for a period of one year.

The maintenance certificate, according to the competent authority of each autonomous community, must contain the following information:

• Installation file number.

• Identity of the maintenance company.

• Explicit statement that the maintenance actions of the installation have been executed according to the Building Book and comply with the requirements of the RITE.

• The consumptions recorded in one year.

• The energy contributions in one year.
