Fresh air in mechanical ventilation: benefits

Sometimes we give little importance to the air we breathe. For two main reasons: the first is that perhaps air is the only essential good that is completely free and available at all times. The second is that breathing is easy to overlook. While feeding ourselves or drinking can be enjoyable, we typically don't worry about the air until there's a problem. But there are many differences between breathing clean air or low-quality air. Not only in odors, but also our health depends on it.
Breathing is essential for life, so if we lack air, we can’t do anything. But it’s not just about whether we breathe or not; being exposed to low-quality air can make us seriously ill. And the problem is significant: it is estimated that only one in ten people in the world breathes clean air. The rest are exposed to pollution and invisible agents that can be very harmful.
What is clean air? We can say that it is composed of about 79% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, and it must be in constant circulation to maintain its purity. If it stagnates, it can become contaminated and turn into stale air, which is harmful to our lungs.
The influence and passage of clean air in our body promotes healthy blood circulation and is very beneficial for our body and mind. Some of its main benefits include:
- Stimulates appetite and aids digestion. Thanks to clean air, we avoid anxiety and nervousness, which is positive for finding a healthy appetite.
- Prevents nerves and keeps us calm. Breathing and our emotions are connected. It’s important to breathe properly to avoid irritation problems.
- Promotes deep sleep. Breathing is fundamental for sleep, and to sleep well we need quality air.
- Improves blood circulation. Red blood cells are improved with quality air, and circulation is enhanced.
- Eliminates toxins from our body. Up to 80% of the toxins in our body can be eliminated solely through breathing.
- Helps us concentrate much better. It's essential for work, as concentration is linked to breathing.
- Improves our skin. With quality air, it's noticeable on our face and body that we are healthy.
- Our mind is clearer. Proper oxygenation stimulates the brain.
However, nowadays we spend more time indoors and in other closed places than outside. And it’s precisely indoor air that we should be most concerned about, as it will be the air we are exposed to for the longest number of hours. Mechanical ventilation is the best solution to enjoy the fresh, clean air we need at home and at work.
How to breathe clean air indoors?
To enjoy clean air indoors, the first step is to ensure proper air renewal. For example, if we turn on the heating in winter and close all the windows to keep out the cold air from outside, and we do not have any mechanism for air renewal, the air we breathe will soon lose quality and become harmful to us.This is because, at home, there are countless sources of pollution. Cooking and cleaning with chemical products are the most important—when doing these activities, it is important to keep windows open if we do not have ventilation systems—but having pets at home and even our own presence pollutes the air we breathe.
Therefore, it is important to have a mechanical ventilation system that extracts the air that has lost quality in the home, at all times and automatically. This way, air renewal is achieved.
If it’s a simple flow ventilation system, air intake will likely come through ventilation grilles that communicate with the outside, from where the air will flow. However, it’s possible that the outside air is not of the best quality, especially in densely populated cities with high pollution levels.
For this reason, the double-flux mechanical ventilation can be capable of introducing clean air in every situation, as it pushes air from outside and passes it through filters that purify it. This way, indoors we always breathe the highest purity air, which is fundamental for our health.
