The construction sector is in an optimistic moment for many, but it is undoubtedly an era of change. The energy efficiency is currently the cornerstone of construction and home automation alongside automation has revolutionized the way we understand homes and workplaces. Under this scenario, from September 17 to 19, Rebuild 2019, the major congress event of smart construction will be held in the capital of Spain.
Hosted in pavilion 8 of Ifema, the large fairgrounds of Madrid, Rebuild promises to make Madrid the capital of modern construction and respond to the sector through numerous conferences, exhibitions, and business meetings. More than 8,000 professionals, around 3,500 congress participants, and up to 240 speakers are expected to attend the event. What is the challenge of the congress? To promote the competitiveness of the sector by sharing information and offering new ideas. All this in an event that will celebrate its second edition after a successful start, which took place last year in Barcelona, a city that will alternate with Madrid to host the annual meeting.
What will Rebuild offer to all attendees?
- Energy efficiency. More than the main challenge, it is the true reality of the sector. Currently, construction involves cost and energy savings, it is the mainstay of construction. On September 17, at 10:00 am, the Commercial Director of Siber, Santiago Pascual, will participate in the debate Approaches to Energy Efficiency.
- Building Information Modeling (BIM). Although relatively unknown until recently, BIM is a method of design and project management related to the construction and renovation of buildings of all kinds. It is based on the development of a three-dimensional parametric model of the building to be constructed or renovated.
- Digitization. The information age has significantly changed the way we understand the sector, and this will be palpable in Rebuild 2019. For example, the best digital tools for creating buildings and for the use of architects will be showcased. This is one of the event's strong points, as according to the president of Rebuild, David Martínez, "digitization remains one of the pending issues in the construction sector." Therefore, according to him, it is necessary to implement it as soon as possible because "it is urgent to respond in an increasingly demanding market.”
- Automation in material manufacturing processes. This is another significant advance towards achieving more efficient homes and better-executed constructions. Regarding this topic, on September 18 at 11:20 am, speaker Ana Martín from Siber will give a talk Digitization of Ventilation Systems in Residential Buildings.
Why is Rebuild the event for leaders in the construction sector?

The major event of smart construction will feature a lavish showroom of 15,000 square meters where the future of technologies and their applications in the sector will be explained, in addition to Building Information Modeling or virtual reality. Architecture, of course, will also play a main role.
However, Rebuild 2019 aims to be the major event of the sector to respond to the new reality. Starting in 2020, everything built in Spain will have to comply with the European regulations of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings. This will be the true significant entry of energy efficiency into the sector, and smart construction will be crucial in this.
No one in the sector doubts that an event like Rebuild 2019 should be the great information platform that professionals in a sector undergoing many changes desperately need, but in which we cannot overlook that there are significant challenges, both locally in Spain and worldwide, where energy efficiency is a global reality.
For example, Rebuild will address the issue of the difficult access of young people to housing in Spain, whether in ownership or rental. Likewise, it also seeks to promote industrialization to build faster and safer, as David Martínez states, without forgetting that the environment must not be harmed. Similarly, digitization will help all actors in the sector reduce costs and improve safety.
Without a doubt, Rebuild is the event that the sector needed in Spain and worldwide to adapt to a changing reality, in which energy efficiency, automation, and digitization will play a determining role.
